{"id":450,"date":"2012-12-04T09:43:54","date_gmt":"2012-12-04T09:43:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digitalmediacomputing.org.uk\/?p=450"},"modified":"2012-12-04T11:37:26","modified_gmt":"2012-12-04T11:37:26","slug":"blogging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digitalmediacomputing.org.uk\/?p=450","title":{"rendered":"Blogging"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><strong>Blogging<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Task 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Use <a title=\"Technorati\" href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Technorati<\/a>, <a title=\"Reddit.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.reddit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Reddit<\/a> or another blog search engine, find at least five interesting blogs.<\/p>\n<p>You should <strong>choose at least one blog from each of the following categories<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Personal journal\u00a0&#8211; like someone&#8217;s diary<\/li>\n<li>Community blog\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Blogs written in order to raise awareness in community and to address the issues related to a particular community. \u00a0The <a title=\"Greener Leith\" href=\"http:\/\/www.greenerleith.org\/greener-leith-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greener Leith blog<\/a> is an example of a community blog. \u00a0Often community blogs are written by more than one author.<\/li>\n<li>Corporate blog\u00a0&#8211; like <a title=\"Apple Hot News\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/hotnews\/\" target=\"_blank\">Apple<\/a> or <a title=\"Coca Cola blogs\" href=\"http:\/\/www.coca-colacompany.com\/blogs\/\" target=\"_blank\">Coca Cola<\/a> or another company blog<\/li>\n<li>Political blog\u00a0&#8211; these blogs cover and discuss political issues and also promote certain political parties and views. \u00a0Political blogs also include\u00a0campaign groups like <a title=\"Pedal on Parliament\" href=\"http:\/\/pedalonparliament.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pedal on Parliament<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Special interest blog\u00a0&#8211; like a blog about <a title=\"Mostly Skateboarding\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mostlyskateboarding.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">skateboarding<\/a>\u00a0or <a title=\"Penguins blog\" href=\"http:\/\/thepenguinblog.tumblr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">penguins<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Task 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Follow the blogs using an aggregator tool. An aggregator lets you keep track of lots of blogs and see when new posts and content has been added without having to kepp visiting the website for the blog.<\/p>\n<p>You could try <a title=\"Google Reader\" href=\"http:\/\/www.google.co.uk\/reader\" target=\"_blank\">Google Reader<\/a> (log in through <a title=\"http:\/\/glew.org.uk\/\" href=\"http:\/\/glew.org.uk\/\">Glew.org.uk<\/a>),\u00a0<a title=\"Netvibes.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.netvibes.com\" target=\"_blank\">Netvibes.com<\/a>, <a title=\"Protopage\" href=\"http:\/\/www.protopage.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Protopage.com<\/a>\u00a0or something similar.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/digitalmediacomputing.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Protopage.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-453\" title=\"Protopage.com website\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalmediacomputing.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Protopage-300x185.png\" alt=\"Protopage.com website\" width=\"300\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/digitalmediacomputing.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Protopage-300x185.png 300w, https:\/\/digitalmediacomputing.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Protopage.png 995w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I like Netvibes and Protopage as they have a fun interface, much brighter and more customisable than Google Reader. \u00a0Netvibes is a nice way of finding blogs too. \u00a0Just click on the Add Content button at the top. \u00a0You can also add &#8216;Widgets&#8217; on to your pages. Protopage lets you do this too and it lets you have bookmarks, sticky notes and a useful search box.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Task 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Review the blogs you have read.\u00a0 Things to think about when evaluating the blogs are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Usability<\/strong>: ease of navigation, ease of finding information, visual appeal and ability to recover from errors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Navigation<\/strong>: backtracking, timeline navigation, search facilities and threading.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Structure<\/strong>: linear and hierarchical structures, timelines and semantic blogging.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Connectedness<\/strong>: collaboration, links, particularly top other blogs and newsfeeds, but also to the Web in general.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Design and Presentation<\/strong>: the visual and typographical aspects of blogs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Content: <\/strong>quality of information, use of multimedia, frequency of update, archiving<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blogging Task 1 Use Technorati, Reddit or another blog search engine, find at least five interesting blogs.
